. DUTCH ESCAPE GEAR ON LEYLAND COMETS

TTURNTABLE fire escapes manufactured in the Netherlands by J.Geesink and Zonen are now being fitted to standard Leyland Comet petrolengined machines. Two of these Comets, equipped with 107-ft. escapes. have been delivered to the West Riding County Fire Service.

Several patents cover the design and manufacture of the Geesink escape. It has automatic change speeds for extension and elevation, acoustic warning signals, load indicator with signal, and a number of other safety devices.

Power for driving the ladder is taken • from the driving shaft of the vehicle through a special oil-bath gearbox which has strong helical gears. When the drive to the ladder is engaged it disengages the drive to the rear axle, while at the same time the electrical signalling system is put into action. New export-type heavy-duty endtipping gear and U-shaped steel dump bodies have been designed for Leyland Comet 90 and Super Beaver chassis by Bromilow and Edwards, Ltd. The gear, which is the slant-ram cam-and-roller type, is common for both models, but the bodies have been designed to give a capacity Of 5 cubic yds. for the Comet 90 and 7 cubic yds. for the Super Beaver.
