CM DOWNTON is looking for authorisation to base 40 vehicles and 50 trailers at a new operating centre at Premier Point in Runcorn, Cheshire.
Operations director John Downton says the North-West of England is becoming an increasingly important part of the business. "We have decided to invest in a 120,00002 depot with parking for 100 vehicles, and we aim to have it open from November. We hope to create an extra 50 jobs."
He adds: "The depot will be used to service existing business as well as new contracts."
Last year, Downton opened a 110m distribution centre in Ouedgeley, south of Gloucester. Max'. the Gloucester firm ordered 86 new trailers for its Pets At Home contract from trailer and bodybuilder Cartwright Group. In
Elddis Transport
COUNTY DURHAM-based Elddis Transport is looking for permission to base six vehicles and six trailers at the KA Warehousing facility on the Stanley Industrial Estate in Skelmersdale, Lanes. Last month, Elddis announced a 2% drop in pre-tax profit to £284,000 for the year to December 2009. However, the company also said it would maintain its overall fleet number of 165 vehicles and 280 trailers.

TAYG ROLA) WANTS TO increase authorisation at its site on the Landgate Industrial Estate in Ashton-ln-Makerfield, Greater Manchester to 40 vehicles and 100 trailers. Bibby Distribution bought Taygroup for an undisclosed sum in May.

TC HAULAGE IS looking for permission to base three vehicles and six trailers at a new operating centre on the Vale Business Park in Cowbridge, South Glamorgan.The company wants to remove its facility on the Atlantic Trading Estate in Barry, from its licence.
