• Management at Tibbett & Britten's Transcare division have refused to comment on claims that staff are coming under pressure to sign new contracts which would allegedly cost some of them £60 a week.
According to staff sources Transcare imposed the controversial new terms and conditions on Monday, with £5,000 payments for all drivers who agreed to sign the new agreement immediately. But they say that any delay in signing to the deal will reduce these payments, And drivers who refuse to sign up within a month will be dismissed after being paid an amount related to length of service, it is claimed.
Transcare field operations manager Kim Sainsbury refuses to comment except to say that the information ranges from "not 100% accurate" to "complete nonsense". Further meetings are scheduled this week with the Transport and General Workers Union and the United Road Transport Union.
Most of Transcare's 100 drivers work, exclusively for Marks & Spencer. They were previously offered a deal which sonic drivers say, would have cost them up to £100 a week.
