Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IN 1CHE next round of pay talks between the Transport and General Workers and the employers, a 15 per cent pay rise will be the minimum the union will accept.

This follows last week's statement by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Denis Healey, urging pay increases to be kept down to ten per cent.

TGWU commercial services group secretary Alan Law told CM: "There isn't a chance of a pay-ceiling as low as 10 per cent. I shall be pressing for a minimum of 15 per cent and anyone who thinks it will be less than that will be a very sorry person."

However, Mr Law confirmed the fact that the unions will abide by the Chancellor's plea for observance of the 12 month rule on wage negotiations.

A spokesman for the Road Haulage Association said: "We would express the hope that the Transport and General Workers Union, being a responsible union, would take note of what the Chancellor said.
