Big GPO order for Commers

'THE General Post Office has recently placed an order with the Rootes Group commercial vehicle division for 600 Commer Series 2500 vans. The contract is worth approximately £400,000.
With a nominal load rating of I ton, the Series 2500 Commers are hinged-door vans, powered by Perkins 52 b.h.p., 4.108 diesel engines.
The Commers will be employed by the GPO as engineering utility vehicles for telephone maintenance duties throughout the United Kingdom. They arc finished in green and will be supplied with three front seats. Special equipment includes roof ladder racks, tool binning and provision for the stowage of gas bottles.
