QINCE Mr. Harold K. Cox was granted 1.--) a licence in 1962 to operate services all over the world from Nottingham he had not made a single journey. the East Midlands Traffic Commissioners were told last week.

Mr. Cox, trading as Transcontinental Express Road Services from Noel Street, Nottingham, said it had been his intention to hire coaches when he could get passengers, but he had no capital and had not received a single booking. He was applying to the Commissioners for renewal with slight modification of licences to run express services to Calcutta. Singapore. Gibraltar, Durban and Capetown. This was refused by the Commissioners, Barton Transport Ltd. objected to the renewal and on the company's behalf Mr. R. Seely Whitby claimed that Mr. Cox had made no effort to run the service. "The way he is going on is an abuse of the licensing procedure." Mr. Cox agreed with Mr. Seely Whitby that he obtained licences in order to " do a financial deal " with other operators.

Giving the Commissioners' decision. the chairman, Mr. C. R. Hodgson, said that Mr. Cox was first grand a licence "almost on sympathetic grounds. We felt you had worked hard in communicating with people all over the world and wanted to give you a chance, but nothing has happened and we take the view that nothing ever will ".
