1-1, Yorkshire Licensing Authority requiring a Sheffield operator to charge 8s. 3d. more than he proposed for a service to Torquay was described as "a classic piece of bumbledom " by Mr. G. A. N. Hirst, M.P., at the Publicity Club of Leeds, last week.

. The case, reported in The Commercial Motor last week, was that of Mr. C. G. Littlewood, who was told by the Authority that he did not consider the proposed fare of £2 10s, economic and imposed a charge of £2 18s. 3d.

Mr. Hirst said that the explanation appeared to be that a larger operator charged the higher fare [Sheffield United Tours, Ltd.], and the Authority considered it was the proper amount. "The principle involved is serious," he, added, "and should be raised in Parliament."

On Monday, Mr. Littiewood took 650 bookings for the new service.

Application has already been made for permission to run more vehicles. The present allowance is two coaches a week for 12 weeks during June, July and August. The service is already fully booked for nine weeks.
