THE Chancellor of the Exchequer has formally acknowledged the receipt of a resolution from the Traders' Road Transport Association on the subject of purchase tax on goods-vehicle chassis.
The resolution reads: "The Traders' Road Transport Association views with concern the maintenance of purchase tax on goods-vehicle chassis—essential and capital-equipment goods—although the Chancellor of the Exchequer has recently made a further and relatively substantial reduction in the rate of purchase tax on certain articles coming within the luxury and/or 'non-essential class, on which the rite had already been reduced last year. • "The Association urges the need and justification for the complete removal . of purchase tax on goods-vehicle chassis, more especially as the conditions which were claimed to justify. it " when it was first imposed no longer obtain."
