THE Ogmore and Garw Urban District Council has been presented with details of a road scheme of first importance to traffic in the mining valleys of Glamorgans,bire, the cost of

which is placed at £366.000. • One-half of the cost of construction is to come from the Ministry of Transport, and roads will be made connecting the heads of the Rhondda, Ogmore, Garw, A gan, Neath, Crynant and Swanses valleys. A total mileage of 32.30 of roadway will be laid down. The principal roadway commences on the new Givmparc-Ton Pentre road in the Rhondda, and runs to connect westward valleys over a distance of 17.59 miles. From this spur roads are to connect svith each of the valleys.

The Ministry of Transport engineers, in conjunction with the officials of the local councils concerned, have planned the road& The main road indicated in the scheme climbs from its starting-point near Parc Bare Colliery from an elevation of 610 ft. 0.D. to its greatest height of 1,800 ft. 0.10. north of Blaengarw, and it crosses the main watersheds of the Ogniore, Garw, Agan, Rhondda and Carrwg valleys. The principal road is continued to link up the valleys until brought back to join the road from Merthyr and Aberdare to Neath and Swansea. The connecting roads vary in length from a little over one mile to four miles.

The several urban district councils in the areas which will be traversed by the new roads, together with the Glamorgan County Council, will share the cost of the scheme over and abovesthe grant. of 50 per cent. from the Ministry of Transport. This means that a 4d; rate per annum for 00 years will be imposed over the whole area.

The approximate detail cost of the scheme is as follows :— Main route and three main spur roads, 2225,000 ; BlaeDrhondda-Ith igos spur, £51,880; Pont-Neat h -Fechan, Seven Sisters and Rhos Common road, £89,561.
