Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Bibby Distribution has lost a major contract with Budweiser, putting at least 120 jobs in Bicester and Buckingham at risk. David Harris reports.

MORE THAN 140 drivers and other workers at leading logistics company Bibby Distribution are facing redundancy, according the main union at the firm.

The Transport & General Workers Union (T&G) says the jobs are threatened at Bibby's Bicester and Buckingham depots following the loss of a contract with Budweiser. Kuehne & Nagel Drinks Logistics (KNDL) is expected to take over the work in June, operating from a different site.

Adrian Jones, T&G regional organiser, says: "We've been worried about the contract renewal for some time and are devastated by the announcement. Our members have worked long and hard to give excellent service to Budweiser and now face losing their livelihoods."

TheT&G warns that more than 140 staff could be laid off, Jones adds: "We'll be contacting KNDL to set up urgent talks to find out their plans and how we can retain as many jobs as possible."

A spokesman for Bibby Distribution says that it will be discussing the future of its employees with KNDL over the next few weeks, and that it hopes that at least some of its personnel from the Budweiser contract will be transferred to KNDL.

"We also think that not as many jobs as the union is suggesting are under threat. The latest figure we have is more like 120 than 140," he adds.
