Specified Equipment made by ihe Allan Taylor Engineering and Manufacturing Co. for use on Golf Courses, Aero dromes, Parks, etc.

FOR a number of years the Allan Taylor Engineering and Manufacturing Co., 126-128, High Street, Wandsworth, London, has specialized in the production of tractors and equipment for use on open spaces, where the use of normal vehicles is precluded owing to the • damage caused to the turf. A recent addition to its range of tractors is Illustrated on this page, and is shown coupled to a trailer designed for use in conjunction with this unit

The outfit has been designed to meet the demand of owners of large open spaces and park lands, and the tractor is capable of hauling grass mowers in gangs up to eleven at a speed of 4 to 8 m.p.h. in top gear. The mowers are conveyed from park to park on the trailer, which is equipped with special gear for loading and unloading.

• The tractor is equipped with a Fordsdn BA-type engine, a modified gearbox and an overhead worm-driven rear axle. Having a wheelbase of 8 ft., a small turning circle is obtained, this point being of importance when mowing or negotiating narrow paths with sharp bends.

A four-position drawbar is provided at the Tear, and a similar attachment is available for the front of the machine, if required.. Low-pressure tyres of special design are used for the road wheels, so that no damage is caused or markings made on the turf. .

The tractor is of use for general purposes, in addition to mowing, and a road speed of 15-20 m.p.h. is obtain

able. For taxaLion purposes the unit comes within the 1-ion class. •

Loading, unloading and transportation of gang mowers has always been a difficult problem, and a feature of the new trailer is that the loading or unloading of nine 30-in, gang mowers may be accomplished by one man hi 115 to 20 minutes. The tailboard ramp,. which is in two hinged sections, is lowered to the ground by a winch situated at the front of the trailer, and is hauled into position after loading by the same means. A two-speed gear is. provided in the winch. The trailer drawbar is spring-loaded, and automatic brake equipment is provided. The trailer has a metal. floor and a loading height of 3 ft. ; the ramp is designed so that the angle is frot too severe. .

Having a load capacity of 2 tons, the trailer can also be used for general purposes.
