Fire Protection at the British Industries Fair.

The fire protection at the British Industries Fair is a highly important matter, because the show is the largest held since the Fair . in 1915, about 1,000,000 sq. ft. being occupied by some 2,600 stands.

This important work of fire protection has again been entrusted to Merryweather and Sons, Ltd., of Greenwich, which company has carried out the duty for several years. Both at Olympia and the White City detachments of the Merryweather Brigade will be on duty day and night. Products of the company will be seen at the stations Motor Licensing and Dishonoured Cheques.

In view of the fact that some dishonoured cheques in payment for motor licences are, on re-presentation to banks, subsequently cleared, or cash is , tendered in lien, Herts County Council's licensing committee suggests that an attempt should he made to secure the clearance of a cheque before sending a notice requiring the person concerned to surrender the licence.

If the cheque be not cleared, or cash tendered, within, say, seven days of the first return of the cheque, the notice should, in the committee's opinion, then be served. The committee considers that proceedings should be instituted in all cases where persons fail to comply with the notice.
