Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

By Chris Tindall SCOTTISH TRANSPORT irm Macaskill Haulage has been placed into provisional liquidation with the immediate loss of 44 jobs.

The irm, which operated in the north of Scotland and the western isles, and has a licence authorising a total of 46 HGVs and 49 trailers, appointed KPMG on 7 December.

It specialised in reefer haulage, lat and low-loader work and waste transport and operated out of four depots in Stornoway, Inverness, Hamilton and Uist.

According to provisional liquidators Blair Nimmo and Tony Friar, director Donald Murray bought the irm in 2001 and had been providing inancial support. Both say a few members of staff are staying on in the short term to assist KPMG. “Macaskill Haulage was a wellknown and long-standing business that has suffered from the ongoing effects of the current economic climate,” says Nimmo. “The irm has been reliant upon inancial support from its director, however, recent trading losses and cash low pressures have become unsustainable.

“Unfortunately, on appointment there was no option but for the company to cease trading and, regrettably, 44 employees were made redundant. We are now considering how best to realise the company’s assets.” KPMG says anyone with an interest in the business or assets should contact Peter Burnett on: 0141 226 5511.
