Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Independent used truck dealership Smith Brothers has picked up 60 tractors and trailers in a bulk acquisition after a well-established haulier lost a contract.

Longtown. Cumbria-based RJ Murray & Sons has been forced to make 10 of its drivers redundant and downsize its fleet following the loss of a regular run. It has sold off 40 Utility Trailers triaxle curtainsiders and 20 Scania tractors to used truck dealership Smith Brothers.

However, RJ Murray & Sons' managing director Stephen Murray says other possible deals in the pipeline may come through, allowing the company to recruit again in the future.

"We've had a slight restructuring, hut nothing major. We had a contract for a couple of years where they the client] tried something new and it didn't work, through no fault of ours," he said.

Most of those made redundant were drivers at the Longt own depot and its sister site in Newark, Nottinghamshire:11ns has left the firm, which employs 85 people across the two sites, in the same position as two years ago.

Constant flux Bosses are now working on securing new runs to again build the business base. "Things are in the pipeline and going forward, which could mean more jobs. It's the nature of the industry and the supply chain that we have staff coming and going all the time."

Stephen Smith at Smith Brothers has 2003and 2002registered 52-plate R124 420s and 02and 51-plate topline midlift tractors, complemented by some older stock registered between 1997 and 1999.

A year ago, Smith made bulk acquisitions central to sourcing stock for the forecourt, and the purchase from RJ Murray is just the latest.
