Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

"THE PURSUIT of Excellence," a campaign by which British Road Services is seeking perfection in all things, is, says the group newspaper, Hotline, "not all a nine-day wonder — systems are being installed by which every single branch, office and other location throughout the group will be regularly assessed on all the various parameters."

"Parameter" is a word that always throws me. My dictionary defines it as "quantity constant in case considered but varying in different cases," which does nothing to unbaffle me.

But I have no doubt what Hotline means when it adds: "And where performance is not up to scratch, something will be done to ensure that the required standard is reached next time it is assessed."
