GEOFFREY Pygall, managing director of British Road Services, has every reason to enjoy Christmas. The £25,000 that he staked in the National Freight Consortium about three years ago is now worth £215,000. Shares have appreciated in value 8.6 times.
This is one of the figures that he let slip without batting an eyelid at London's exclusive Belfrey Club, where this year's BRS Christmas Press luncheon was held. Other heart-warming statistics for shareholders when they attend the annual general meeting at Harrogate in February include a 13 per cent increase in BRS revenue and an improvement in profits of more than 30 per cent in the year to October 4.
Geoff particularly welcomed a two per cent increase in staff and a halving of redundancy costs. That kind of news is gratifying at any time but particularly at Christmas.
