A polyurethane protective coat.. :ing system has been developed by Tercol Ltd that can be used to dustproof and strengthen
• cementitious floor surfaces at a material cost of 6p /cu yd.
Known as Nitiolac, it was developed to strengthen existing friable concrete floors and to bind, seal and dustproof new concrete floor areas to render . them impervious to mild chemical attack.
After application the resin is absorbed into the concrete it covers and, once penetration has occurred, the powerful adhesive • properties of the material work. harden the entire treated area by . binding together the aggregate • particles in the surface cement, say the makers.
A two-coat application., of Nitolac is recommended to compensate for the varying porosity / absorption of different sections of concrete. No on-site mixing is required. Nitolac can, after prior etching of the surface with a 10 per cent hydrochloric acid solution, be spread over concrete by squeegee, brush or roller.
The optional second coat is preferably applied . after : the Nitolac film has been allowed to cure for a minimum of two hOurs at 15 deg C; the new dustproof floor surface can withstand light traffic 24 hours after application. Full curing time is seven days.
