Mrs Brenda Siddall is all for women's lib lut would be happier if women would take all he opportunities presented to them and do a it less protesting. As well as being vivacious Ind curvaceous, Brenda Siddall has done ,omething practical about women's equality: he has steadily climbed the Road Haulage 1ssociation ladder from office typist to area ecretary in South Yorkshire.

The fact is, Brenda's the only female RHA ecretary in Britain and is justifiably proud of he fact that she had to beat off a number of -iale applicants to obtain the post. Her entire vorking life has been spent in the RHA.

The daughter of a miner, and born in 'inxton, Derbyshire, 42 years ago, she now maks after the interests of hauliers who are in le main employed in the carriage of steel .orn Sheffield and in working for heavy idustry in Chesterfield, Rotherham, Doncasar and Barnsley.

She also shares the distinction of being one f only two RHA secretaries who are also VOA area secretaries. There are those who ave suggested that a professional secretary annot serve two masters, but Brenda Siddall oesn't agree.

Although a Derbyshire lass she is more heffield than the "cutlers" and states with Dnviction that Sheffield steel is peerless roughout the world.

During her service Brenda has seen usinesses pass from father to son and admits hough not really for publication!) that she 35 now seen a few grandsons take over.

She roundly rebukes those who attack the rad haulage industry, especially the 3usewives. In fact, after listening to her it is wonder to me that RHA headquarters has yt seconded her to engage in a whistle-stop ,ur of Britain converting the housewives Dm their anti-lorry opinion. "I wonder how any empty pantries there would have been is Christmas if we had not had lorries to irry fresh stocks for the High Street shops?" le asks.

Liberationists please note, busy Brenda ddall actually confesses to missing her tchen ancl her knitting and is very open rout her gratitude for the understanding titude of her husband and daughter. She ganizes with great skill (and, I understand, irsuasion) the social events as well as the isiness events for both her associations and is the enviable ability of being able to enjoy a at all times.

She takes a joke against herself better than Dst. At her first-ever RHA function she .ard one guest refer to her as "the a-burner". She laughed, because she isn't. le is a woman doing a man-size job and frig it well. Al! her 600 members would ar witness to that. G.C.
