TO EASE a daily bus shortage reaching 400 vehicles a day London Transport is making inquiries among other leading operators to see whether it could hire buses. LT's off-the road bus fleet has risen in recent weeks because of the heat wave conditions—aggravating engine and transmission defects — but few operators have vehicles to spare.
