The 7.3m (24ft) bodies will be built on York single-axled semi-trailers. The trailers will be used for the bulk movement of parcels.

Blue power

THE turbocharged Leyland 410 engine is now available as an option for the Clydesdale and Chieftain trucks from Leyland's Blueline range. The 410 engine develops 108kW (144bhp) installed at 2,600rpm compared with the 98kW (132bhp) of the standard 401 engine, This option gives the 16-ton Clydesdale a power to weight ratio of 6.6kW/tonne (9bhp/ton).

This move means the 410 engine is now available in all the models of the Blueline range.

Traffic drops

FIGURES issued last week by the Department of the Environment show that heavy goods road traffic fell by some six per cent during 1974 in terms of vehicle kilometres.

After hitting a peak of 20.7 thousand million vehicle km in 1973, traffic dropped to 19,5 thousand million vehicle km in last year. It was also calculated that the average annual distance travelled per goods vehicle was 22,400 km (13,900 miles) in 1974, a fall of 1,400 on 1973.
