IAL-a-ride companies in Caliirnia have to cope with rather fferent problems than their nglish counterparts.
Under state law they have obligation to buy out any ansport system that is iversely affected by their )erations. Because of this the anta Clara dial-a-bus system as recently forced by a court action to buy out eight taxi firms.
The firms claimed that they had suffered a 15 per cent loss in revenue after the fleet of 90 dial-a-ride buses began operations. The d-a-r company had previously had to buy out all the local privately owned bus companies. They claim that nearly 6,000 people use the services daily.
