THE winner of the 1975 CM Lorry Driver of the Year competition, at Brarricote on September 7, will receive the Michelin European Study Award in addition to other prizes. This year the winner will be taken to the Continent from September 25 to 28 and the Ford plant in Amsterdam will figure in the itinerary.
TRANSPORT 2000, the British pressure group, now has a contemporary in France—and they both intend to lobby against the EEC Commission's intention to liberalise the road freight industry (CM July 4) and require rail networks to pay their way. Transport 2000 wants a common accounting system for all modes as part of a socially equitable and environmentally sound transport policy.
THE EXPECTED cost of a major rebuilding programme just begun by North Western British Road Services at its Bolton depot is £200,000. Due for completion in February of next year, the rebuilt depot will have a seven-bay workshop, an office block and a transit shed.
THE Secretary of State for the Environment has now assumed responsibility for the transport of dangerous goods by road.
This change—it dates from August 4—was announced in the Commons by Mr Wilson, who added that on other matters concerned' with dangerous substances generally, Ministerial responsibility would remain with the Employment Secretary.
