WARNING BY GIRLING

AN announcement by Girling, Ltd., states that genuine Girling brake fluid is sold only in tins labelled "Wakefield Girling Brake Fluid (Crimson)." The use of any other fluid may nullify the guarantee covering Girling braking systems.

MAY REGISTRATIONS UP

REGISTRATIONS of new vehicles, excluding cars and motorcycles, in May, were up by 1,401, as compared with the previous month's figure. Hackneys jumped from 488 to 809, and "other goods" from 5,235 to 6,802.

The first registration for a gas-turbine car is included in the May figures. May registration details are giVen in the table below.

Small Eke tries as Mobile Workshops

ANEW sphere of use for battery operated pedestrian controlled vehicles is as Mobile workshops. The North Thames Gas Board has had six such outfits in operation for some months and a further 15 are shortly to be added to the fleet.

The truck is basically a Tomlinson Roadster chassis with a steel platform body. The rear sockets of the chassis are fitted with tubular steel supports across which is mounted a bench complete with pipe vice. A set of galvanized steel tool boxes, with hinged lids and drop-side panels, is mounted on each side of the platform, the space between the boxes being for large tools and lengths of gas piping. Complete with tools, the vehicle weighs 1 ton 7 cwt., and is powered by Tudor traction batteries.

The maker is Tomlinson (Electric Vehicles), Ltd., Minster Lovell, Oxon.'

CAUSES OF MOST ACCIDENTS

NAORE than half of the accidents Ininvialving British Road, Services' vehicles in the South Yorks District last year were caused by running into the backs of other vehicles, or by backing, into stationary objects. Mr. G. Warrington, B.R.S. Sheffield District manager, made this statement when he presented 84 drivers of the Attercliffe (Sheffield) Group with certificates for one or two years' safe driving.

The groups vehicles covered 3,743,500 miles last year and there was only one fatal accident. Mr. Warrington said it was hoped that the five Sheffield groups would set up their own roadsafety committees.

Three drivers of David MacBrayne, Ltd., qualified for five-year medals in last year's safe-driving competition. Twenty-eight gained bars to their fiveyear medals and 43 were awarded diplomas for one year's accident-free driving.

THE International Road Federation, Washington, U.S.A., ,has been joined by Ford Internatiorial, a division of the Ford Motor Co. Mr. A. S. Wieland, vice-presiatnt of the company in charge of overseas activities, has been elected to the board of directors of the I.R.F.
