jearma.bourketarbi.co.uk HAMPSHIRE haulier RM Page & Sons has ceased trading after the 25-year-old business was unable to cope with "dire" market conditions.

The company's 30 staff were made redundant on 19 March when the business closed.

The family-run firm will sell its 21-strong HGV fleet and workshop facility tomorrow (Friday 23 April) at its yard in I look House Farm. The sale will be conducted by Malcolm Harrison Auctions at its premises on Saturday 4 April at 10.30am.

Company partner Tony Buckland says the decision to close came from his father Bob Page. the firm's other partner, wanting to retire and make sure he had enough finance to support this.

"The last couple of years have been a struggle and, as diesel costs rose, we could not justify the low rates we were getting for jobs We can't see

haulage getting any easier, so chose to get out while we are still ahead.There is an unbelievable amount of interest in the used truck market, so we hope to benefit from this," Buckland explains.

He adds that the closure was also compounded by loss of revenue in December 2009 and January totalling some £50,000. caused by a "dire lack of work coupled with harsh weather".
