Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Pressure is building on Trans-Action to beef up its campaign against the fuel duty escalator and support the growing number of hauliers who want to blockade ports and streets.

Norfolk owner-driver Bob Barker believes "hundreds of drivers" are waiting for a

push from Trans-Action. "We have to fight now or be damned," he says. "I have never seen hauliers as close to each other on any issue." Barker envisages an openended nationwide blockade.

Carmarthenshire haulier John Cooke says one-day actions will not work as they "are a waste of time". He also advocates an all-out campaign which could last for weeks.

Trans-Action is deciding what the next step should be. Organiser Frank Stears says: "I have told the politicians that if you corner a wild animal it will go for the throat. I want hauliers in the country to fax us and to phone us and tell us what they want to do."

But he warns that If hauliers commit to stronger action they must be prepared to back up their words. "If hauliers want it they have to carry it out," he says, "to lose 100% or win 100%."
