white Christmas had arrived early after 12 bales of cotton from a lorry escaped on to the motorway, scattering white cotton across the lanes. Train drivers were warned after one bale rolled toward a line — but it was prevented from reaching the track. The driver was stopped by police who told him he had lost the bales — he was only too happy to pullover.
