III RD Fuels of Stafford has acquired the UK's first Strato 210 17-tonne tanker with the EuroCargo cab. The 210 was launched last October.
The tanker has a 5.9-litre Euro 1 611TA A Cummins engine developing 157kW (210hp) and a useful 705Nm (5091bft) of torque. It drives through a six-speed Eaton 4106 synchromesh gearbox. Its short-wheelbase 4x2 chassis was converted to PetReg-spec by Lakeland Tankers, which also supplied the 12,600-litre, fivecompartment steel tank and Alpeco pumping and metering equipment. A PetReg conversion is now offered as an on-line option by Seddon Atkinson at its Oldham, Lanes factory.
The vehicle joins seven other Seddon Atkinsons in BD's fleet; it will be used to deliver petroleum products to agricultural, domestic and industrial users within 50km of Stafford.
Transport manager Mike Hello says it offers a real improvement in driver comfort and visibility with a useful turning circle. The 210 17-tonner was supplied by Parton Motor Sevices, Seddon Atkinson's new main dealer in Stoke-on-Trent.
• Neoplan's 32-tonne Megashuttle four-axled city bus was the star exhibit at Leipzig's Auto Mobil show last week. A similar double-decker is now on its way to the UITP exhibition in Sydney, Australia where construction and use rules allow a capacity of 120 passengers, 60 less than in Germany. Future EC legislation is expected provide a wider role for this class of PCV.
