WE are pleased to announce that the Minister of Transport will officially open the third COMMERCIAL MOTOR one-day Fleet Management Conference, to be held in the Hilton Hotel, London, on Thursday, September 22, the day before the Commercial Motor Show opens.

Chairman of the conference will be Lord Chesham who, when Parliamentary Secretary to Mr. Marples, himself opened the 1964 conference.

Authors of papers who have previously been announced are : Sir John Hunter, chairman of the Central Training Council (The Road Transport Training Board); Mr. F. H. Woodward, dispatch and transport manager, Burton Tailoring Ltd. (Maintenance—Past, Present and Future); Dr.Ing. A. H. Muller, director, commercial vehicle development, Daimler-Benz AG (Design and Safety Factors in Goods and Passenger Vehicles); Mr. D. Thaw, technical director, Eaton ENV Transmissions Ltd. (Future Trends in Transmissions); and Mr. E. van der Hall, secretary, Van Deudekom-Timmerman NV, international hauliers, Rotterdam (Operator Associations in Holland).

A sixth paper, on the Future Use of Containers, will be given by Mr. W. M. Lang, a director of the General Steam Navigation Co. Ltd., of various GSN subsidiaries, and of P and 0 Group Transportation Planning Ltd. Mr. Lang, who is 48, has for some time been engaged on special studies for his group in relation to road/sea use of containers. He is considered to be one of the foremost experts in the United Kingdom on this new (to UK operators) trend in transport.
