Ltd., London N5, has been appointed to the newly created position of general manager, responsible for co-ordination of all traffic and warehousing operations throughout the company. Albert Jordan has taken over from Mr. Bladon at Bristol, and Wilfred Phipps has been promoted to Bristol traffic manager. C. Head, Cullompton depot manager, has resigned from the company (with effect from April 30) to take up an appointment in Africa.

D. R. Cane, chief engineer of Hebble Motor, Services Ltd., will retire on June 30. Mr. Cane was employed for some years with the original AEC company at Southall as senior tester and field service engineer before joining The Potteries Motor Traction Co. Ltd. in 1946 as assistant to the chief engineer. He became assistant engineer of Trent Motor Traction Co. Ltd. in 1949 and took up his present appointment with the Hebble company in January, 1956.

P. B. Calladine has been elected chairman of the East Midland Centre committee of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers for 1966-7, with J. H. Phelps as vice-chairman.

Brian Mulligan has been appointed to the new position of general manager of TGB Motors Ltd., Clitheroe, a member of the Primrose Group. E. T. Whatley has been appointed to the new position of comptroller, Primrose Third Axle Co. Ltd., Blackburn. He was formerly general manager. R. Fletcher becomes general works manager, a new position. Peter Walker, 34, MP for Worcester, has been made official Conservative spokesman on transport in the House of Commons. In the last Parliament he was second-line spokesman on Treasury and economic affairs. Mr. Walker, an ex-grammar school boy, is founder and chairman of an insurance brokerage concern, but has wide business interests that include unit trusts and engineering. He was one of Mr. Heath's opponents over the UK's attempted entry into the EEC in Mr. Macmillan's time as premier. Mr. Walker has for the past three years been president of the National Conference of Road Transport Clearing Houses, a position from which he may now stand down.

J. C. Clymo, traffic manager of the Trent Motor Traction Co. Ltd., has been appointed to a similar position with Southdown Motor Services Ltd. Mr. Clymo has been employed by companies within the British Electric Traction Group since joining their training scheme in 1951. He joined Trent in 1964.

J. M. Hanna has been elected chairman of the East Midland Division of the TRTA for 1966-7, with H. Whittaker as vice-chairman.

Following the death of F. A. Walker, the executive committee of the Passenger Vehicle Operators Association has appointed W. A. Webb as assistant secretary of the Association. Mr. Webb has been a staff member of the PVOA since 1939 and is secretary of the London and Home Counties area.

Allan Cheetbam, company secretary and chief accountant at Scammell Lorries Ltd. since 1963, has been appointed to the board of directors.

E. Chamberlain (Charringtori Yorkshire Breweries Ltd.) has been elected chairman of the Yorkshire Division of the TRTA, with H. W. Stark (Cornelius Parish Ltd.) and A. Utley (Jessops Saville (Sheffield) Ltd.) as vicechairmen. Mr. Chamberlain has also been elected chairman of the Leeds and West Riding area. with H. Hardcastle, N. Marsden and F. H. Woodward as vice-chairmen. G. Torrance (Smith and Wellstood Ltd.) has been elected chairman of the Scottish Division, with F. A. Buist (Clyde Tyres Ltd.), W. T. Fairbairn (Scottish Brewers Ltd.) and R. B. W. Ross (Scottish Tar Distillers Ltd.) as vice-chairmen. J. W. Phillips has been elected chairman of the Scottish Central area, with B. A. Munro-Brown as vice-chairman. G. Mercer has been elected chairman of the Preston and Blackburn area of the North Western, Merseyside and North Wales division, with J. Bolton and D. F.
