should be no more political interference with road haulage," said Mr. R. Morton Mitchell, chief executive

officer of the Road Haulage Association, last Friday.

"Both 'nationalized and independent road haulage have a better chance than ever to operate efficiently," he said. " Politicians should give the industry at least 10 years under the 1953 Act before they think out any more disastrous political theories.

"In the meantime, all engaged in the transport of goods are bound to look at their common problems. Independent road hauliers and British Road Services have much of mutual concern. Such matters as construction of vehicles. the 30 m.p.h. speed limit for heavy goods vehicles, wages and conditions of service of employees, licensing, taxation and better roads all provide grounds for mutual discussion, which is bound to develop over the years.

" Let the politicians leave commercial and operational problems to those engaged in the industry, and do not force amalgamation, co-operation or integration which is not based on sound business foundations."
