POLICE ARE appealing for information following a road traffic accident on the M6 in which a driver was killed.

The incident happened on Sunday 5 September at about 9.40pm on the northbound section of the M6 between Keele services and Junction 16.

Two cars left the carriageway. John Painter. a truck driver from Crewe in Cheshire, died as a result; the other driver received minor injuries but was released from hospital after treatment.

Police are searching for a truck which was involved in the incident, and which stopped momentarily at the scene according to a witness. It then continued its journey northbound.

As part of the search police are asking people to contact them if they can identify the livery of the trucks pictured on CCTV footage. They wish to eliminate these vehicles from their enquiries and are urging witnesses to co-operate.
