Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE March figure of 11,458 com mercial vehicles exported brings the total for the first three months of the year to 34,102, the highest in volume since the June quarter of 1952. March ex p or ts were valued at £6,457,665 and those for the first quarter of the year at £19,803,340.

The average weekly output for March was 4,884 units, the total for the month being 24,422. This brought the quarterly figure to 64,805, nearly 3,800 more than for the corresponding three months of 1953, but 1,486 fewer than in the fourth quarter of last year. Of the month's output, 12,786 were for export and 11,636 for the home market.

Goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special types numbered 23,201 of which 12,290 were for overseas and 10,911 were for the home market. The total was comprised of 12,671 of under 15 cwt. carrying capacity, 8,509 from 15 cwt. to 6 tons and 2,021 over 6 tons.

In the same period, 1,129 passenger vehicles were produced, 922 being single-deck and 203 double-deck motorbuses and four trolley buses. Ninetytwo battery-electric vehicles were built during the month.

Of the quarter's total of 64,805 vehicles built, 62,039 we r e goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special types. Those under 15-cwt. carrying capacity numbered 34,920, over 15 cwt. and up to 6 tons 22,057, and over 6 tons 5,062. Of the 2,534 passenger vehicles produced, 2,091 were single-deck and 432 double-deck motorbuses and 11 trolleybuses. Batteryelectrics totalled 232.

To be added to the quarterly export figures given in the table were 528 used commercial vehicles (£260,974), 26,690 tractors (£11,377,255) and parts and accessories to the value of 122,038,060.

WAGES DISPUTE FOR TRIBUNAL

ON June 17, the Industrial Disputes Tribunal, to whom the Minister of Labour has referred the matter, will hear the dispute concerning vehicle builders' wages. The employees have rejected the employers' offer of an increase of Id. an hour for adults and proportionate advances for women and apprentices.

£250,000 TRACTOR CONTRACT A CONTRACT valued at £250,000 for the supply of industrial tractors and spare parts for the Royal Air Force has been secured by David Brown Tractors (Engineering), Ltd., Meltham, Huddersfield. The tractors are of two standard types-30 IC and VIG-ICand will be used for towing aircraft and general airfield duties.

AVE regret to announce the death of Yv MR. FRANCIS M. LumEa.

Mr. Luther, who 35 years ago introduced the Beardmore taxicab, was vicechairman and managing director of Beardmore Motors, Ltd. He was 71.
