A PROTRACTED dispute between

Wright Bros. (Wolverhampton), Ltd., Wolverhampton, and the British Transport Commission on the question whether 100 vehicles in the company's undertaking were relevant property for compensation when the business was nationalized, was settled during a 75-minute recess granted last week by the Transport Arbitration Tribunal.

After the recess it was announced that the whole matter, including "a considerable number" of High Court actions, had been disposed of. All that how had to be done was to draw up the final document.

Mr. A. P. Marshall, Q.C., for Wright Bros., told Mr. Montgomery White, Q.C., chairman of the Tribunal, that the figure which had been agreed included costs of certain High Court actions, and did not consist entirely of compensation. The amount of compensation was yet to be apportioned. The case was adjourned until May 25. The Tribunal confirmed the payment of £156,500 compensation to Watson Bros. (Burton-on-Trent). Ltd.

SPAIN TO MAKE FORD 3+-TON OILER I T is understood that the Spanish Director General of Industry has

authorized an extension to the Ford Motor Iberia factory in Barcelona for the production of a new 3f.-ton oilengined lorry. According to local reports the engine will have an output of 70 b.h.p. and a non-assisted hydraulic braking system will be used.

It is believed that the new model will combine the designs of the American and Dagenham-built Ford vehicles. A total output of 3,000 lorries per year is planned.

NO PAY CLAIM—YET NVHEN the executive or the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions met at York last week, a proposal by the National Union of Vehicle Builders that a claim should be made for an increase of 10 per cent. in pay found no seconder. The final position will be decided at the Confederation's annual meeting in August.
