Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A transistor stroboflash — Type 1209D — announced by Dawe Instruments is claimed to provide a high-sensitivity input which enables the instrument to be triggered directly from such sources as vibration meters and vibration analysers or from an electro-magnetic pick-up.

Producing a high-intensity white light, the stroboflash is capable of directly measuring the speed of any shaft or rotating part within the range 300 rpm to 18,000 rpm. The very short duration of the light flashes makes it possible to measure speeds up to 180,000 rpm. In addition to the internal oscillator, it may be driven by a contactor Unit or photo-electric pick-up, and provision is made for plugging in an external lamp A wheel diagram in the cab is included in the Tyrometer, an electronic tyre-pressure indicating system produced by Vedyne Development (Pty) of South Africa. The diagram shows the pressures of the tyres individually while the vehicle is being driven. An audio warning device alerts the driver in the event of a drop in pressure below the normal and the faulty tyre is indicated by a red light on a matchbox-size annunciator.

A miniature pressure switch, slightly larger than a valve dustcap, is connected to a wheel pick-up which clips to the inside of the wheel and resembles a 2oz wheel balance weight. Tyre-pressure information is constantly transmitted to a small encapsulated electronic device which is mounted about 1in, from the inside of the wheel. Information from all the wheels is fed to the display unit, which contains the analogue-to-digital electronic converter and the annunciator panel.

The system may be fitted as original equipment and it is . available as a kit which can be fitted to a vehicle in an hour. Manufacture and sale outside its country of origin will normally be on a franchise basis. Negotiations have been initiated for manufacture and distribution in the UK and Europe.
