Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Around 50 driver, warehouse and office jobs could be lost when BOC Interbrand's depot in Leeds is closed in May, warns the Transport and General Workers Union.

A second BOC depot will close in early June, says the company, and the TGWU says there could be a further loss of up to 50 jobs.

BOC's Cheshunt depot will shut and a depot will open in Hatfield, 12 miles away. "They could transfer the whole workforce from Cheshunt to Hatfield on their present rates but they prefer to make them redundant and start people on new, lower rates of pay," says the union. It also says that a further 200 jobs could be at risk in the Southeast, Midlands and Scotland with more depot closures on the cards.

But a spokeswoman for BOC says jobs have been offered to all staff from the Cheshunt depot at the "new, expanded site" in Hatfield_

"There will be no compulsory redundancies," she says. The number of job losses at Leeds is not yet known, she adds. "There are some job offers in the pipeline."
