• Legislation designed to combat bridge bashing, due for implementation on 1 June, is to be delayed by up to six months because of concern over costs.
The Department of Transport rethink is largely over the twoday notice requirement for local authorities for vehicles over 4.88m high which will impose a potential cost burden on them.
The highways authorities still need to find a way of dealing with this notification period.
Other requirements of the legislation, including a cab height notice for vehicles over 3m high, and a warning device to show if any power operator equipment is raised, are also under review.
