THE HEALTH AND Safety Commission (HSC) is promoting safe systems of work to reduce fatalities in recycling and waste collection work.

Its new guide Waste and Recycling Vehicles in Street Collection has been published in response to six deaths involving waste/ recycling collection vehicles since December 2005.

HSC chairman Bill Callaghan says: This partnership between local authorities, the waste and recycling industry and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has produced a set of clear standards that will control those risks".

W Tripod Crest Planning and Aggregate Industries UK have each been fined £25,000 at Central London Criminal Court.
