Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A Ford D1614 tractive unit has been converted by Kays Commercial Vehicles Ltd of Derby for use by the Tamworth Road Surfacing Co Ltd so that it can operate as a tipper after it has hauled a low-loader trailer to a road-making site.

An Edbro single-ram tipping gear is mounted on a cradle at the front of the unit, while yokes are fitted to the ends of the main frames to accommodate the hinge pins. Constructed of aluminium alloy, the drop-sided body is insulated to provide for the carriage of tarmacadam. As a tipper the vehicle has a gvw rating of 16 tons while the gvw of the low loader outfit is 22 tons.

The outfit is employed to transport a road roller and ancillary equipment to the site and the driver then returns to base for mounting of the tipper body on the tractive unit.

As observed by CM this can be completed in under 10min, the body being slung from chains attached to a fabricated steel stand located at the base. After the tractive unit has been reversed under the body the hinge pins are inserted in the yokes and the tipping gear mated to the body. When the vehicle is being employed as an articulated outfit, the gear is held in a forward position by a strut.

The prime-mover was supplied by Craners Garage Ltd of Burton-on-Trent.
