Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TBE motor vehicle is now used by all the big oil and motor spirit companies for distributing their products, and some of the largest fleets in use in this country are engaged on this class of service.

Typical vehicles which are employed for this work are shown in the accompanying illustrations, one being a KarrMr tanker recently supplied by liarrier Motors, Ltd, of Huddersfield, to the Cleveland Petroleum Products Co., Trafford Park, Manchester, and the other a Dennis tank wagon delivered by Dennis Bros., Ltd., of Guildford, to the proprietors of the well-known llo lubricating oils, W. B. Dick and Co., Ltd.

The Karrier tanker is one of a number which the company have recently supplied to the Manchester concern, and the chassis consists of a K5 6-tonner, which incorporates in its design a 50-64 h.p. power unit. The elliptical tank which the chassis carries is the product of Thompson Bros. (Bilston), Ltd., of Elision, and has a capacity of 1,5410 gallons. It is complete with armoured hose, hose trays, valves, dip stick and semi-rotary pump. The driver's cab is arranged to carry three people in coin fort, and at the rear of it a fire screen of metal and asbestos sheeting is fitted to comply with the regulations of the London County Council.

The vehicle is handsomely finished, the tank being in ultramarine blue, and the cab, chassis and other parts in bright red. The lettering is in gold lined out in black.

The Dennis tanker consists of the makers' 5-6-ton chassis, to which is fitted a 1)-shaped tank made by the Steel Barrel Co., Ltd.' of Uxbridge. The tank is divided into three compartments, so that three different grades of oil may be transported at the same time, and the total capacity is 1,200 gallons.

As the machine has to deliver to storage tanks which are sometimes situated considerably above the level of the roadway, a 3-in. Peurheerd pump is installed, this being mounted on a bedplate attached to the chassis frame, where it is driven through a Hardy disc joint direct from the gearbox, the gearwheels themselves being entirely enclosed.

The pump is self-lubricated, and is controlled by a lever from the driver's cab; the output is at the rate of 70 gallons per minute when the engine is running at 475 r.p.m. A governor device to prevent the pump from being overrun is incorporated.

The three compartments of the tank are filled through overhead manholes, but it would not be difficult to arrange for the action of the pump to be reversed so that they could be filled by, power. A 3-in, valve at the bottom of each compartment leads to a pipe feeding the pump, so that the three compartments may be emptied simultaneously or one at a time. A hosebox is provided for carrying 50 ft. of hose, through which the oil is pumped into custothers' storage tanks.

The machine is finished in a dark shade of blue, the gold lettering, which is shaded in light blue, standing out very clearly.
