RHA slams council's A14 truckstop delay

CM COVER STORY

THE ROAD HAULAGE Association (RHA) has reacted furiously to a delay by a Northamptonshire council about whether or not to allow a 200-space lorry park lobe built alongside the A14.

Property developer Cireatline Developments says Kettering

Borough Council has asked for more evidence showing that there are no other suitable sites for truckstops near Rothwell.

Council case officer Anne Drew says it now hopes to make a decision in December, two months after the original target date.

But RHA infrastructure manager Chrys Rampley has accused the council of "procrastinating".

"Ifs easier to say we want more reports rather than having the guts to make a decision," she complains. "It's just annoying; they need to consider their duty of care."

Greatline director Mark Day says it wants a decision made quickly and adds: We are very much aware of the dire need for a facility of this nature. Any delay is a disappointment.

"The wider council is very well aware it is necessary and well aware that overnight parking in lay-bys is not safe, not secure and is dangerous for drivers."
