Norbert Dentressangle buys 0.5m-worth of new trailers

george.harrawfarbi.co.uk NORBERT Dentressangle (ND) Transport Services UK has invested £1.5m in 75 new trailers that it hopes will cut repair bills In line with ND trailers used on the Continent, the new Mon tracon units will be fitted with SAF-Holland axles to enhance reliability and performance, says the firm.

The Montracon trailers will also be the first in ND's UK fleet to run with the SAF Intradrum axle, a drum brake and air suspension system with 40% fewer parts than its rivals, and currently the lightest trailer axle of its type at just 409kg.

Robert Oliphant, engineering director for ND Transport Services, says: "We were looking for a premium running gear. and wanted the most reliable solution. We've had previous experience of SAF axles in Europe. and have run SAF disc brakes on our UK trailers in the past.

"We expect the new drum brake axles with their extended warranty to lower our operating costs and reduce downtime."

Leicestershire-based IMS will provide the running gear, as well as assisting ND in the training of engineers. "In France, our firm has been using SAF for years, so we approached IMS to assemble the best running gear that would offer us significant savings [through lower maintenance costs] across the life of each trailer," says Oliphant. He adds: -We were very pressed with the operation at IMS and the outstanding SAF axle system put forward." im
