S. MARKLAND, A.M.I.A.E., M.S.A.E., research engineer, and Ma. A. HOSKER, a member of the planning department of Leyland Motors, Ltd„ left, a few days ago, for the United States. They will visit factories in Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit, Pontiac, Chicago, Pittsburg and New York. This is the second year in succession that a tour of American automobile factories has been made by members of the Leyland engineering staff, with the object of interchanging ideas on manufacturing methods.

MR. A. A. LIARDET and MR. HENRY SPURRIER, JNR., have been appointed to the board of directors of Leyland Motors, Ltd., which is thus brought up to its Maximum strength of eight and includes, in addition to the above, Messrs. J. H. Toulmin (chairman), Henry Spurrier (managing), C. B. Nixon (deputy managing), A. Spurrier, Vernon Walker and Walter Davies. Mr. Liardet will continue as general manager. an office which he took over when he joined the company in 1923, whilst Mr. Spurrier, Jill., retains his 1928 appointment of assistant general manager.
