West Riding County Highways Committee has considered 'representations as to' the desirability of all motor vehicles used for the transport of passengers being compelled to be fitted with pneumatic tyres and as to the use of the chain-track types of locomotive as a means of preventing undue wear and tear of road surfaces.
The committee state's that the speed at which heavy commercial vehicles are driven has an important bearing upon the question of the wear and tear of
road surfaces. It holds pie view that the use of the chain-track type of locornetivelivould, in certain instances, prevent uedne wear and tear, and is, therefore, of opinion that legislation should be introduced prohibiting all goods vehicles of an unladen weight in excess of four tons being driven at. a speed exceeding 10 miles an Mar, and also that the recommendation made by the Departmental Committee on Road Vehicles for legalizing the chain-track type of locomotive should be carried into effect.
