Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Although the Mitsubishi Canter franchise passed from Volvo Trucks to DaimlerChrysler in December 2001, there are still those within the Volvo network who, hating read the recent Canter 35 road test (CM17-23 Oct) would take issue with some of the comments made within it_ Firstly, in comparison with the previous Volvo regime, Mercedes is cited as "more than happy to offer its CV dealer network to support Mitsubishi product in Europe".

For the record, Volvo Trucks in 1998 could only be given the Canter franchise in European markets where Mitsubishi was not already represented: ie, the UK, France, Italy, Poland and Sweden. Volvo did support the product within its European network and also worked closely with other Canter-franchised markets where necessary.

Secondly, and much more seriously, the comment that "with DaimlerChrysler behind it, the Canter will finally get the sort of aftersales service that was lacking in previous years" is a wholly inaccurate reflection of the effort and commitment that went into supporting it by the UK Volvo truck dealer network. Even now Volvo dealers are still looking after Canters on maintenance contracts.

While the Canter product has clearly improved, largely based on input from Volvo and operator feedback, perhaps it is those operators who should be the final judge when it comes to comparing levels of aftersales service.

Stephen Kirk, PR 86 Marketing Manager, Volvo Truck, Wanvek.

m We're happy to put the record straight on this matt Our comment on aftersales service was intended to refk the increased opportunities available to Canter operator torough the TT Mercedes-Bei truck dealers in the UK. and i as a criticism of the support provided by Volvo's dealers. I read that way then we'll ace the egg is on our faceā€”Ed.
