Throe assariated Stokeon-Trent companies appeared before West Midland Traffic Commissioner David Dixon after maintenance problems were found following a fatal accident.

Endon-based AJ Weaver (Hauliers), JL Cooper & Sons and OW Weaver operated a total of 54 vehicles and 20 trailers between them.

They appeared before the IC at a Birmingham Public inquiry where AJ Weaver was also seeking an additional 15 vehicles and 15 trailers.

Dixon heard the evidence behind closed doors as the police had not concluded their investigations into the fatal accident that took place late last year.

He revoked the licence held by JL Cooper & Sons with effect from midnight on 10 November and suspended the licence held by AJ Weaver for a fortnight.

Dixon took no action against the DW Weaver licence and granted the variation application but only for four vehicles, to take effect the day after the revocation of the Cooper licence. This brings the AJ Weaver licence to a total of 16 vehicles and two trailers.

The TC said he could not be satisfied that the companies were capable of running a larger fleet properly.

Fie found that the good repute of transport managers David and Nicholas Weaver was badly tarnished by the events that had been described in the evidence, and he warned them about their future conduct.

The IC suggested that one of the CPC holders currently responsible for DW Weaver's operations should be added to the AJ Weaver licence as a second transport manager

Finally, he said a copy of his decisloi should be sent to the North Wester Traffic Commissioner in whose area Db Weaver also held a licence.
