Logistics giant TOG says it has agreed to an 8% pay rease for more than 20 drivers in Kent because of despere recruitment difficulties in the region.

The deal, backdated to June, boosts pay from £6.25/hour £6.75/hour and overtime pay from 112.50/hour to 3.50/hour. A company spokeswoman says: "There is a terle driver driver shortage in the South-East and we need the best ivers to provide excellent service for our customers."

Billy Lamb, regional industrial organiser for the Transport General Workers Union, says it is the biggest pay increase r drivers he has negotiated in the four years he has been Kent.

"The arguments are stronger now and companies are iing to have to recognise that something drastic has got to peen if they are going to keep drivers in the industry" says.

The drivers are based at Gravesend and work on TOG's intact with consumer products company Kimberly-Clark.
