The work is a co-operative effort by 33 of the Association's members building oil engines. It presents unusually detailed technical information in a standardized form, 'which involves only. a• few moments' study to obtain the data required.

The .classes of Diesel engine dealt with are thosi for stationary, transport able, railway traction, marine auxiliary and marine propulsion duties. Well over 2,000 models are included and indexed in no .fewer than 34 cages. • Reference can readily.be made t-) any required engine by rnake name., by duty class or in a special Lightning I ndex." The "Lightning Index" is divided into five sections, as follow:--(a) vertical. and V-form industrial, (b) horizontal 'industrial,. Also included are various makes of dual-fuel engine and one make each of alternative-fuel engines, engine-compressor sets and convertible oil-gas engines.

Apart from 246 pages of enginedesign information illustrated in red, blue, orange, green and black, there are 48 pages in the introductory portion. The introduction covers the origin and scope of BA.C.E.M.A., by Sir Lynden Macassey, a description of Diesel working principles, a definition of technical terms, a précis of engine andfuel standards, and a glossary of terms used in connection with liquid fuels
