Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Anyone driving a truck of 3.5 tonnes and above will need a Driver CPC. After 10 September 2009 all new drivers must have passed — in addition to their vehicle licence —the Driver CPC if they are to drive.

• This involves a four-hour theory test and two-hour driving and practical test In addition to passing the existing licence requirements.

• Drivers who acquire their licence before 10 September will not have to sit for the Driver CPC, However, both new and existing drivers also have to do 35 hours of periodic training every five years to keep their training up to date.

• Only courses that have been approved by the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT) will count towards the hours.

• There are no courses to follow, or passes required, for this training — merely attendance.
