THE SDP-Liberal Alliance, has absolutely nothing to say about the role of the haulage industry under an Alliance Government, writes our Parliathentary Correspondent.

Its manifesto published last week has just one paragraph on transport policy.

Labour has adopted its previously published transport policies in their entirety for its manifesto. That means higher taxes for heavy goods vehicles, with tougher noise and pollution standards.

National routeing and restrictions will be introduced to take lorries away from people and Labour is also pledging a properly enforced licensing system.

Labour also wants to renetionalise the National Freight Consortium.

A National Transport Authority would be established to coordinate a transport policy to ensure integration of different transport services.
