• The first engine to pass the British Standards Institution's revised truck diesel Type Test is claimed to be a Rolls-Royce Motors turbo-charged Eagle 265 Mk H.
This gives Rolls-Royce Motors Ltd a triple first. In June last year, the naturally aspirated Eagle 205 and 220 Mk II became the world's first engines to gain BS AU 141:1967 certification. Now they are also the first manufacturer to pass the new revised Standard and also the first to pass either test with a turbocharged engine.
The turbocharged Eagle 265 Mk II was put through the difficult conditions of both the former and the revised Standard—BS AU 141a:1971—and still came through well within the limits of both, even though uprated from 265 bhp to 280 bhp.
In the revised British Standard account has been taken of the exhaust smoke levels included in the regulations being prepared by the Economic Commission for Europe.
